At 15:00 on September 8th, the School of Mechanical Engineering held the opening ceremony of the 2019 freshmen at Xipu Stadium.
General secretary of school party committee DONG Dawei, Dean QIAN linmao, Deputy Dean CHENG Jun, Deputy Dean MENG Fanchun, Deputy Dean ZENG Donghong, Deputy Dean TIAN Huaiwen, Dean Assistant ZHANG Zeqiang, and Professor Representative JIANG Liang and other college leaders attended the ceremony.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Deputy Dean MENG. First of all, Deputy Dean MENG welcomed the students on behalf of the school. The freshmen were given the responsibility of the School of Mechanical Engineering to start the new century, and they were given the hope of "carrying forward with prosperity and self-improvement". Subsequently, Deputy Dean MENG announced that the opening ceremony 2019 of Mechanical Engineering officially began.
In the first stage, all stood up and sang the national anthem.
In the second stage, Prof. Dong made a speech. Prof. Dong first welcomed the students, then introduced the development and trend of the school in recent years, and emphasized that our school's mechanical engineering is a top discipline, with a strong team and excellent results. Subsequently, Prof. Dong proposed three expectations for the students: 1. hope that the students can develop comprehensively; 2. hope that the students can study hard, master the necessary knowledge; 3. hope that students will increase their ability to withstand pressure.
In the third stage, professor representative JIANG Liang made a speech. On behalf of the young teachers, Dr Jiang welcomed the arrival of the students, and encouraged the students to be diligent in their studies and to be knowledgeable, to be ambitious and to have the motherland in mind; to persevere and be loyal to the motherland. Dr Jiang said to the students: "If you persist for four years, it will be easier after graduation". Subsequently, the events of Huawei and ZTE were explained, hoping that on the occasion of the centenary of the School of Mechanical Engineering, the students could serve as witnesses and practitioners and contribute to our country.
In the fourth stage, YAO Ming, the outstanding student, made a speech. Yao said: University is the springboard of life. We should seize the opportunity to improve ourselves. At the same time, Mr. Yao gave four suggestions to the freshmen: 1. Learning first; 2. Actively participate in innovation competitions; 3. Devote to student serVice and practice themselves; 4. To be a person with responsibility.
In the fifth stage, the freshman representative ZHAO Yijun made a speech. Zhao said: ‘Efforts are the main theme of university, and we should study hard. Today's high-speed railway, maglev transportation, tribology, new energy and other aspects need our participation and enthusiasm. We should focus on practice and get along well with the people around us. We must have the courage to plan and win. Last he wish all students to have a regretless university life.
In the sixth stage, our tutor YANG Huaiyin made a speech. Mr. Yang first congratulated the students on coming to the big family of the school. He said, the tutors are going to trying their best to help students, and will encourage you when you are frustrated. Finally Mr. Yang hope all students to have a hard, progressive, and nice university life."
In the seventh stage, all stood up and sang the school song.
Then, the opening ceremony of the 2019 freshmen of the School of Mechanical Engineering officially ended. The first lecture of freshmen, "Thinking about the Cultivation of Innovative Ability" started by Dean Qian Linmao.
Dean Qian started his lecture in four aspects. The first is about the introduction of the School of Mechanical Engineering; the second is his personal growth experience; the third is the importance of innovation; the fourth is how to carry out innovative research. Dean Qian emphasized the importance of improving creativity. In the end, Dean Qian offered some tips to the students: 1. Focus on classroom learning and innovative ability; 2. Be conscious; 3. Be honest and never cheat.
At this point, the freshmen’s first lecture was successfully concluded.
