At the invitation of the School, the former Vice president of the University of Plymouth, the Dean of the School of Engineering, now the editor-in-chief of Int J Fatigue (International Fatigue Magazine, SCI-EI Source), and the consultant professor of our school (2005), Professor Malcolm Neil James will visited our school on September 26-29. He will give an academic lecture for our school on the 28th.

Introduction to Malcolm Neil James: Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Plymouth University, United Kingdom, mainly engaged in structural integrity research. His research fields cover fatigue and fracture, residual stress analysis, fatigue life prediction, metallographic analysis, welded structure and failure analysis.
Professor James has served as Vice President of Plymouth University, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Committee, Dean of the College of Engineering, Dean of the College of Marine Science and Technology, etc. He obtained a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Witwatersrand University in the United Kingdom in 1976, and a doctorate degree in metallurgical materials from the University of Cambridge in 1984. In 2005, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of South Africa, and was successively awarded the honorary professor/visiting professor of Sheffield-Hallam University of the United Kingdom, Southwest Jiaotong University of China, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of South Africa and Ferrara University of Italy.
Professor James is the co-editor of International Journal of Fatigue (Elsevier Science), and is an editorial board member of Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier Science), Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale (the International Journal of the Italian Fracture Group), The Open Mechanical Engineering Journal ( Bentham Science Publishers), Journal of Engineering Research (Kuwait university) and Forensic Engineering (Institution of Civil Engineers, London).
He has published more than 160 academic papers and works, and was invited to make a series of invited reports at International Academic Conferences. He is a consultant expert in the analysis and evaluation of international engineering failure accidents of the United Kingdom, United States, South Africa, Netherlands, and New Zealand.
