On November 21 and 22, the final of the 9th "China Railway Industry Cup" National College Students Mechanical Innovation Design Competition was held on Xipu Campus of Southwest Jiaotong University. Students from different universities congregate and compete every two years at the Event, demonstrating the highest level of mechanical design ability of college students in China.
Focusing on “Smart Home, Happy Family”, this year’s Competition was sponsored by the Organizing Committee of the National College Students Mechanical Innovation Design Competition and the Steering Sub-Committee for Higher Education in Basic Courses of Mechanical Engineering of the Ministry of Education, and hosted by Southwest Jiaotong University in collaboration with National Mechanical Principles Teaching Research Association, National Mechanical Design Teaching Research Association, Research Association for Manufacturing Engineering Practice and Beijing Cedutech Co., Ltd.
The mechanical competition not only tests the students' mechanical professional knowledge and comprehensive design ability, but also plants deeply in their minds the concepts of standardization, equality, elegance, benevolence and innovation. The works exhibited cover a wide range of subjects. Apparatuses including intelligent wheelchair for the elderly, intelligent bed and toilet chair directly address real-world problems and manifest the potentials of the contestants in the integration of theoretical knowledge with realistic solutions. Devices such as automatic ironing machine, intelligent clothes drying equipment, intelligent balcony system reveal unlimited possibilities brought by the development of science and technology in the future. In addition, products like the automatic tea making machine connects the traditional culture with intelligent machinery.
The Organizing Committee of the Competition issued 143 first prizes, 238 second prizes, 16 excellent organization awards, 3 contribution awards, 1 memorial prize, 11 "good design" creativity awards and 15 most popular works awards from among 4,719 pieces works collected from 678 universities across the country, and the University alone was granted 5 first prizes, 4 second prizes, the excellent organization award and the memorial prize.
The Competition was streamed live on CCTV News and Bilibili with nearly 100,000 online audiences across the country.
