On Nov. 10, the exhibition of first-hand materials of Prof. Wu Luming was held on Xipu Campus, and Shen Huoming, Vice President of the University, attended the event.
Wu Luming (1936-2016), a native of Tongcheng City, Anhui Province, was an Expert with Special State Council allowances, one among the first batch of National Teaching Masters, leader of the National Teaching Team on Mechanical Fundamentals, famous expert in mechanical engineering education, and a senior professor of Southwest Jiaotong University. Since September 2019, the University History Museum have received three collections of precious materials and more than 100 items from Prof. Wu's wife, the late Ms. Gao Shuying (formerly a professor at the School of Mechanics). The exhibition displays his handwritten notes, manuscripts, notebooks, lecture notes, teaching materials and awards and other valuable materials.
Shen Huoming highlighted that the exhibition is not only a tribute to Prof. Wu, but also a manifestation and promotion of the tradition of “Rigorous Scholarship and Strict Requirements" of Southwest Jiaotong University. All these precious materials are proofs and imprints of his lifetime devotion to the cultivation of students. He blazed a trail in mechanical engineering education, and made outstanding contributions to not only the mechanical engineering discipline at our University, but also the mechanical engineering education at large in China. He will be remembered and commemorated forever among the students and staff of the University. Following his example, we should be conscientious and diligent in teaching, and contribute our part to the cause of higher education in China.
After the opening ceremony, the students and teachers present viewed the exhibits under the guidance of a docent from the University History Museum.
